OK, after some more playing, I understand how the hook model works now.
It's probably worth mentioning that it isn't >necessary< to add the properties to subversion to make the integration work, it just gives some prompts to your integration tool (TortoiseSVN or AnkhSVN or whatever) to work with. Also you have to apply them to every folder otherwise changes in that folder don't 'trigger' version integration in the client.
If on the other hand, you don't add any subversion properties at all, the integration still works, you just have to make sure you manually type in the bug ID, in the format that matches the regex you have configured in the BugNET.SubversionHooks config file.
